Pair Watch – Audio Advertisement – Digital Artefact

The innovation created throughout this semester was titled the ‘Pair Watch’, a smart watch that retained the old features from previous smart devices, and combined those features with brand new technology, that had either not been included in similar watches, or not yet released. As such, convergence was a concept that was highly relevant to this artefact, as well as the idea of ‘digital disruption’, which was another argument included throughout this digital artefact. Regarding this digital artefact, which took the shape of an audio advertisement, potentially something you may hear over the radio, the research undertaken aimed to reinforce the main aspects and arguments I was making throughout. More specifically, the digital artefact attempted to convey why the audience needed this product, highlighting the use of convergence, and also how it will affect the market, through the concept of digital disruption.

Using Sport to Rebel Against Expectation – A Motion Picture Project

Continuing on with the same subject as the previous two projects, this piece always had the intention of being a very reflective piece. This was the main idea I was working with from the beginning, with the hope that this self-reflecting piece would explore the very reasons he may be seen as a rebel. This developed greatly when the filming process began, and I was able to once again witness him in his most comfortable state, away from all the distraction and pressures he faces. To fully explore this idea, I featured a sit-down interview, which along with the film being captured, was my best chance to convey the message.

Using Sport to Rebel Against Expectation – An Audio Piece

Project Statement

From the very beginning, I wanted this audio piece to take the listeners on a journey, from start to end. To do this, I felt the need to incorporate three different layers throughout the piece, that being voice, atmosphere and foley. The audio piece is follows the subject of my rebellion series, carried on from my last project, which focused on a University student using sport to rebel against expectation.

Using Sport to Rebel Against Expectation – A Narrative Photo Series

Using Sport to Rebel Against Expectation

Project Statement

The creation of a photo series, portraying the concept of a living ‘rebel’ was one in which put forward several challenges, but as a whole, presented an opportunity to create a series using techniques and skills that were only just beginning to be developed. Considering who may be a suitable person to participate in this photoshoot proved to be one of the more significant obstacles throughout this process, as it was crucial to truly understand the idea of a rebel.

When considering the success of any type of project, highlighting and reflecting on the concept, methodology, utility and overall trajectory is crucial. For this semester’s digital artefact, appraising the project’s success and limitations is also a significant aspect. Deciding to continue the digital artefact started for a previous subject was a simple decision. It became clear, especially towards the end of the previous semester, that the digital artefact, ‘Random Reality Recaps’, had a great potential, if changes were made. As a result of making these changes, and adjusting the problems which brought down the quality and the reach from last year, I felt that this digital artefact achieved the utility originally outlined, as well as the personal goals that were created at the start of the semester. While the concept and methodology remained similar, the tweaks made at the beginning, and throughout, allowed for the overall trajectory to be far more successful. The iterations were crucial, and as a result of learning from the audience, and understanding the feedback loops, ‘Random Reality Recaps’ truly succeeded any of my original expectations.

Peer Review – Bec’s Bookshelf

For this peer review, I have chosen to follow the development trajectory of Rebecca Neilson’s digital artefact, ‘Bec’s Bookshelf‘. The reasoning behind choosing to follow this artefact was due to an immediate interest in the content she was creating. I’ve actually been following her blog since last year, when she did her artefact for a previous subject, and thoroughly enjoyed the content she was producing. When the opportunity was brought forward, to personally follow another project, it become very apparent that this was not going to be a difficult decision to make.
